Million-triangle imports, gone

FBX, OBJ, 3DS, DAE, STL and GLTF/GLB run through a 16-stage pipeline you cannot switch off, and land in your model as clean, welded, textured geometry.

  • 16-stage pipeline
  • 7 file types in
  • ~3x faster on 819k tris

    Any Mesh In.

FBX, OBJ, 3DS, DAE, STL, GLTF/GLB. Six format families, six readers, one common mesh model in metres, Z-up.

  2. 02

    Optimization Stays On.

Sixteen stages run on every file: weld, clean, simplify, smooth, QC. Profiles change the pressure, never the pipeline.

  3. 03

    Textures Find Themselves.

It scans the maps and textures folders, matches a diffuse image per part, and projects UVs onto parts that arrived with none.

  • Six format families in through per-format Ruby readers - FBX 7.x, OBJ, 3DS, DAE/Collada, STL and GLTF/GLB, seven extensions in all - normalised into one common mesh model in metres, Z-up.
  • Every file runs the same 16 stages: analysis, transform normalise, vertex weld, degenerate and duplicate face cleanup, coplanar analysis, QEM simplification, normal recompute, smoothing analysis, UV check, material consolidation, instance detection, component build, SketchUp geometry, soft/smooth edges and a final QC pass.
  • Three profiles - Maximum Optimization, Balanced (the default) and Quality Priority - change how hard the pipeline pushes, never whether it runs; weld tolerance, target face ratio, smooth angle and the preserve switches for UVs, materials, hard edges and instances sit under Advanced.
  • Batch queue takes one file or a whole folder: live file / stage / percent readout, Pause, Cancel File, Cancel All and Retry Failed, eight tracked job states, 500 MB per file - one bad file never stops the run.
  • Built-in 3D preview with orbit, pan and zoom in Material, Solid and Wireframe modes, smooth-shaded and capped at 60,000 faces so it stays interactive.
  • Diffuse textures are matched for you: the source folder plus maps, textures, texture, tex, images, materials, doku and kaplama subfolders, one level below included, with wrong-texture protection that only applies generic evidence when a single untextured part type is left.
  • Eyedropper assigns textures part by part, auto-groups identical parts behind xN badges, and splits parts that share one material into their connected components - splitting stops above 16 disjoint parts.
  • Parts that arrive with no UVs get them: Box, Cylindrical or Planar projection chosen per part, tiled at a real-world size in centimetres (60 cm by default).
  • Source unit is yours to set on formats that carry none - OBJ, STL, 3DS - as the document unit, Automatic, or manual mm/cm/m/inch. Output goes into the open model, to .skp files (Chair01.fbx becomes Chair01.skp), or both, written in SketchUp 2021 format so older seats can open them.
  • Work runs in UI.start_timer slices of 40,000 faces, so the SketchUp window never freezes; startup costs about 6 ms with the 41-file engine loaded on first use, and 85 MB / 819k triangles now parses in 5.1 s instead of 24.6 s - roughly 3x faster end to end.

Shipped, and what is next.

Shipped

  • 16-stage mandatory pipeline with three profiles, from Maximum Optimization to Quality Priority
  • Batch conversion over a whole folder - pause, per-file cancel, Retry Failed and eight tracked job states
  • Automatic texture matching, eyedropper per-part assignment and Box / Cylindrical / Planar UV generation
  • Trilingual UI in Turkish, English and Spanish: 388 keys, complete in all three, with OS-language detection
  • 3x speed-up end to end on 819k triangles, guarded by 300+ assertions across five pure-Ruby test files

Next

  • Draco-compressed glTF support, and FBX 6.x read directly instead of asking for a 7.x re-export
  • PBR maps carried into SketchUp - metallic, roughness and normal instead of flat colour plus diffuse
  • Multi-select in the file dialog, so a handful of files no longer needs the + Folder route
