  1. 01

    Draw the Boundary Once.

Select the parcel edges, or click the corners yourself. Posts, panels, stepped footings and gates arrive as one group, one undo.

  2. 02

    Let the Ground Decide.

Rays read the terrain, every bay steps to its own level, panels stay square and true, and the footing follows the grade underneath.

  3. 03

    Measure While You Model.

Length, panel area, post and stone counts, footing concrete, waste and your unit prices: a costed report and a CSV, not a tally sheet.

  • Wall chains come from what you already drew: selected edges, polylines and arcs, several disconnected chains at once, all checked for forks and gaps before a single face is created. No boundary in the model? The free-hand tool takes corner clicks - double-click, Enter or right-click to finish, click the first point to close, Backspace to undo a point, Esc to cancel - and leaves no temporary edges behind.
  • 13 wall characters in one list: plain concrete, concrete block, natural stone, dry rubble, mortared rubble, veneer stone, brick, mesh panel fence, vertical timber, horizontal timber, metal picket, gabion and glass.
  • Terrain following is a vertical raycast onto the visible top surface, or the line's own Z if you prefer. On an update the existing wall is excluded from the rays, so re-running the same wall never makes it climb.
  • Every panel carries a step reference - high end, mid or low end - with a solid closed step foundation underneath, and posts extend themselves to the neighbouring panel or gate level. Defaults: 3.5 m bay spacing, 1.2 m panel height, 0.18 m panel thickness, 0.32 m posts, 0.45 x 0.50 m footing, 5% waste.
  • Gates go in with two clicks on a finished wall: the clicks snap to the nearest chain, the panel between them is removed, both end posts stay, and the gate is fitted to terrain level. Six presets with their own width limits - classic single leaf, wrought-iron double, natural timber double, modern sliding, mesh service gate, timber pedestrian gate.
  • Masonry rules live in the geometry, not in a note: max 15 stones per m2, at least 2 bond or anchor stones per m2, stone depth never below 16 cm, joints of 1.8 cm dry rubble / 2.8 cm mortared rubble / 3.5 cm veneer stone, 16 cm veneer facing - each value also written into the component definition as metadata.
  • Closed parcels get automatic inside/outside detection; open chains take a left/right hint from you. Add a setback offset, and define pedestrian or parking openings by chain number, distance from the chain start and width.
  • The wall stays parametric: settings and source chains are stored in the UfukTools_GardenWallStudio attribute dictionary in raw model units, so an existing wall group can be re-parameterised or its chain direction reversed from the panel, the Extensions submenu or the right-click menu.
  • The estimate window totals boundary length, net panel run, panel area, post/panel/gate counts, footing concrete, stone/brick/block counts, wire, timber area, metal length, mortar volume and waste percentage, applies your unit prices, and exports CSV (semicolon separated, UTF-8 with BOM) or prints and saves as PDF.
  • Pure Ruby, no external gems. Identical posts, panels and gates share ComponentDefinitions, each run is one group and one undo step, and MAX_STATIONS 20,000 / MAX_DECORATIVE_PARTS 100,000 stop a runaway boundary from freezing the model. Outside SketchUp 2021-2026 a version guard shows a clear warning instead of registering menus. 42 test methods across 8 files, roughly 36,259 assertions, plus real-app smoke passes on 2023.1.315 (Ruby 2.7.7) and 2026.1.189 (Ruby 3.2.2).

Shipped, and what is next.

Shipped

  • v1.5.0: all 13 development phases shipped - chain builder, 13 wall characters, stepped foundations, terrain following, gates and the estimate report
  • Free-hand wall tool: corner clicks, close on the first point, Backspace to undo a point, Esc to cancel, and no temporary edges left in the model
  • Two-click gate placement on a finished wall, with 6 presets and per-preset width limits, keeping both end posts
  • Estimate report with your own unit prices and waste percentage, CSV export (semicolon, UTF-8 with BOM) and print or save as PDF
  • SketchUp 2021-2026 compatibility matrix (10 tests / 407 assertions), real-app smoke passes on 2023 and 2026, and 8 released RBZ packages from 1.0.0 to 1.5.0

Next

  • Full English panel: wiring the existing TR/EN tabs to a real translation dictionary so the whole dialog switches language, not just the report
  • Real-application smoke tests on SketchUp 2024 and 2025, matching what is already recorded on 2023 and 2026
  • Saved unit-price sets, so a quote does not have to be typed again for every project
